Laos' jungles are being slashed and burned by big-business plantation farming at an alarming rate; however, the JCFC makes up 1% of Lao small-holder coffee growers. This small percentage is leading the movement towards sustainability. Members are eliminating chemical fertilizers, eliminating wastes, providing crystal-clear transparency, and incorporating organic composting while growing their coffee within the native jungle canopy. The JCFC has partnered with some of the most respected specialty importers and roasters in the USA & EU. All nano-lot samples are kept separate and cupped individually. Once scores are averaged, villages are recognized and awarded prizes at the end of the season in a friendly cupping competition. Some villages cup scores have risen by as much as 8 points in one harvest. The results speak for themselves. As of today, the cooperative produces a range of robusta and arabica coffees scored between 83 to 88 points. (read more...)
