Sustainability

Laos' jungles are being slashed and burned by big-business plantation farming at an alarming rate; however, the JCFC makes up 1% of Lao small-holder coffee growers. This small percentage is leading the movement towards sustainability. Members are eliminating chemical fertilizers, eliminating wastes, providing crystal-clear transparency, and incorporating organic composting while growing their coffee within the native jungle canopy. Cultural Preservation, Environmental Stewardship & Economic Livelihood Diversity are the cornerstones of JCFC sustainability. (read more...)

Cupping Competitions

The JCFC has partnered with some of the most respected specialty importers and roasters in the USA & EU. All nano-lot samples are kept separate and cupped individually. Once scores are averaged, villages are recognized and awarded prizes at the end of the season in a friendly cupping competition. Some villages cup scores have risen by as much as 8 points in one harvest. The results speak for themselves. As of today, the cooperative produces a range of robusta and arabica coffees scored between 83 to 88 points.  (read more...)
